Project 5
Via Riber Consultants, commissioned by the Local Government Association, I conducted desk-based research and evaluation for Multi-phase research/learning dissemination project for LGA to prevent/handle abuse/intimidation/physical harm of councillors. Within the Team, we collaborated with councils and partners, pinpointed challenges and established best practices. The project culminated in a research report comprising practical guidance and top tips for councils to support and protect their elected members.
ACTIONS
The aim was to identify the challenges and solutions considered in the UK and internationally to deal with online and offline harassment, abuse and intimidation.
For this project, I conducted:
(1) desk-based research with Rapid Evidence Assessment (REA) drawing upon existing sources of national/local evidence, council documents, academic publications, and published datasets. This involved definitions, most recent research and statistics on the topic, international practices and solutions implemented in the UK, United States, Canada, New Zealand and Australia.
(2) Ecosystem mapping – a database with details of all stakeholders, publicly available contact details and the interventions they have taken or proposed, and examples of good practices.
RESULTS
Conducted a qualitative data analysis and prepared a summary research report on the challenges and solutions identified during the project. This constituted a part of the final research report prepared by Dr Sofía Collignon from the School of Politics and International Relations at Queen Mary University of London.
